Installing the four-post lift correctly
A safe lift begins with a solid foundation. The four-post lift should be mounted on a flat, level concrete floor that meets the load requirements stated by the manufacturer. The location should also offer enough space around the vehicle and above the lift for safe operation at full height.
Installation must follow the equipment drawings, with every anchor bolt secured in the proper position. Before the lift is put into service, technicians should inspect the anchor bolts, hydraulic connections, steel cables, mechanical safety locks and electrical components. Any loose fitting or abnormal condition should be resolved before a vehicle is raised.
Operating the lift safely
When driving onto the runways, the vehicle should move slowly and be positioned evenly between the posts. Operators must never exceed the rated lifting capacity of the lift, and passengers should never remain inside the vehicle while it is raised.
Once the required working height is reached, the mechanical safety locks must be fully engaged before any technician works underneath the vehicle. When the job is finished, tools and equipment should be removed from under the lift, and the vehicle should only be lowered when the area is clear.
Setting up wheel alignment equipment
Accurate setup is the foundation of every accurate alignment reading. The cameras or sensors, targets, turntables and wheel clamps must all be installed in their correct positions, and the vehicle should be placed properly on the alignment lift.
Before measurement begins, technicians should inspect the tyres, adjust tyre pressure, and check for abnormal wear, damage or loose steering and suspension parts. The wheel clamps and targets should then be attached securely according to the operating instructions. During the measuring process, staff should follow the alignment software step by step, and avoid moving the vehicle or disturbing the targets.
Calibration and cleanliness
Calibration should be checked whenever the system is newly installed, moved to another location, serviced or repaired, or when the readings appear unusual. Camera lenses and target boards should be kept clean at all times, because dust, dirt or physical damage can directly affect measurement accuracy. Targets and clamps should be handled carefully and stored in their proper place when not in use.
Simple maintenance habits that extend equipment life
Routine maintenance greatly reduces downtime and extends the service life of both machines. Workshops are advised to check the following items on a regular basis:
- Four-post lift: inspect hydraulic oil levels, hoses, cables, moving parts and locking mechanisms, and keep the runways, turntables and sliding plates clean and free of oil, tools and other obstacles.
- Wheel alignment equipment: clean camera lenses, targets and clamps carefully, store accessories properly, and check software and system settings to confirm the equipment is working normally.
Training matters as much as maintenance
